The Importance of Data Cleansing and Data Maintenance
There are always two aspects to data quality improvement.
Data cleansing is the one-off process of tackling the errors within the
database, ensuring retrospective anomalies are automatically located and
removed. Another term, data maintenance, describes ongoing correction and
verification – the process of continual improvement and regular checks.

Importance of Data Cleansing to Business
Data cleansing is a valuable process that can help companies
save time and increase their efficiency. Data cleansing software tools
are used by various organisations to remove duplicate data, fix and amend
badly-formatted, incorrect and amend incomplete data from marketing lists,
databases and CRM’s. They can achieve in a short period of time what
could take days or weeks for an administrator working manually to fix. This
means that companies can save not only time but money by acquiring data
cleaning tools.

Marketing Big Data: Why Continuous Data Cleansing is Important
The data used for marketing a generation ago, including information like point-of-sale transaction data, responses to direct mail campaigns, and coupon redemption numbers, was incredibly limited compared to the data available today. With big data, marketing has experienced tremendous innovation. But simply having and processing big data doesn’t automatically lead to better marketing.

records, those records have been inaccurate and incomplete. A retail marketing
executive, for example, recently said that in the process of cleaning up its
database the company discovered hundreds of customers with the same email
address: 123@aol.com. His anecdote elicited nervous laughter from many in
the audience as they recognized that their customer records were also in need of
some housekeeping.

Data Cleansing To Aid Planning Policy Framework
Almost exactly a year following its unveiling in last year’s
budget by Chancellor George Osborne, Britain’s National Planning Policy
Framework (NPPF) become law on Wednesday March 27th, 2014.
Amongst other requirements, the new rules mandate that councils must set
housing targets on a 5-year rolling basis that will identify potential
developable land within their respective jurisdictions.
While on the face of it, “planning” for such an important
aspect of our economy and our environment might be considered a good thing, the
Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) believes the country is not in a
position to execute on those plans. According to CPRE estimates, only 11 of the
34 Midlands unitary, county and metropolitan districts are in a position to
have their plans in place by the deadline. A vast majority (23 of them) aren’t
yet in a position to submit their plans to the government.
